The 2022 Range Rover Evoque dominates the subcompact luxury SUV market in terms of appearance, but its charms are undermined by practical flaws like its small storage room and cramped back seats. The inside is well-designed and tastefully furnished, but numerous dimensionally smaller competitors provide cabins that are more spacious and have equivalent technology.
Although the Evoque has two optional turbocharged engines and all-wheel drive is standard, its handling is less nimble than that of SUVs like the BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLB-class, and Volvo XC40.
However, those crossovers may sometimes feel more like boosted hatchbacks than SUVs, and the Land Rover Evoque benefits from its off-roading background with an elevated riding position and a solid sensation that unmistakably identifies it as an SUV.
What Has Changed For 2022?
For 2022, an HST R-Dynamic variant with a sporty appearance will be available. The 296-hp color turbocharged four-cylinder engine returns to the Evoque lineup with the HST R-Dynamic. The HST R-Dynamic grade adds unique glossy black 20-inch wheels, a roof painted black, black external trim, and red brake calipers in addition to the more potent drivetrain.
Heated seats, a wireless phone charging pad, a power-operated rear liftgate, and keyless entry are now standard on all Evoque variants. Yulong White is replaced by Ostuni Pearl White in the color scheme.
2022 Range Rover Evoque: Interior And Comfort
Unfortunately, the Evoque's bulky outer dimensions conceal a cramped interior, particularly for passengers in the back seat. The Evoque's rear seats feel incredibly cramped when compared to rival subcompact SUVs like the X1 and the XC40. However, the interior components are extremely beautiful. The dashboard, door panels, and seats of the Evoque can be chosen with very stylish textured cloth upholstery; leather is still available as standard. Ambient inside lighting, 10-way power front seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control are further standard amenities.
Although it's not as large as you might expect from an SUV, the space behind the back seat was still able to hold six carry-on baggage during our testing, which is in line with the majority of the segment.
2022 Range Rover Evoque: Connectivity
A 10.0-inch infotainment touchscreen running Land Rover's Pivi Pro user interface is standard on all Evoque models. Although the system is significantly better than the InControl Touch Pro system seen in cars from the previous generation, it still has certain peculiarities that purchasers will need to get used to. Standard features include navigation and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity; extras include a Wi-Fi hotspot, a Meridian premium music system with SiriusXM satellite radio, and a head-up display.
2022 Range Rover Evoque: Engine And Performance
The P250, a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 246 horsepower, and all-wheel drive is standard on the Evoque. The Evoque achieved a zero-to-60 mph time of 7.1 seconds at our test track. Although competitors like the BMW X1 and Volvo XC40 offered marginally faster times, the Land Rover is still fiercely competitive.
Only the highest-spec HST R-Dynamic is equipped with the more potent P300 powerplant. The 48-volt hybrid technology helps the P300's powerful 296 horsepower engine achieve a 6.6-second zero-to-60-mph performance on our test track.
The Evoque can't be mistaken for a hatchback on the road like the X1 can. Although it feels solid and has seats that are fitting for an SUV, it won't satisfy enthusiast drivers as much as the BMW or Mercedes-Benz GLA class in terms of handling turns.
2022 Range Rover Evoque: Pricing
The 2022 Range Rover Evoque has the highest base pricing in the luxury subcompact SUV category with a starting price of $43,775. Even the base trim may be equipped with more than $20,000 worth of extra amenities and aesthetic enhancements, making its MSRP several thousand dollars higher than that of many competitors.
The price of each higher-end Evoque model rises by a few thousand dollars; the top-of-the-line Evoque HST retails for $53,900 and can cost up to $70,000 with the majority of available options applied.
Which One To Purchase?
To add options like a power liftgate, 14-way power-adjustable front seats, automatic high-beam headlamps with auto-leveling, LED daytime running lights, and 20-inch wheels, we'd recommend the mid-range R-Dynamic SE model. Additionally, we would pay the additional cost for the Online Pack option package.
