For 2022, Lexus underwent a complete makeover of its flagship LX SUV, giving it a modernized platform, an improved interior, and a twin-turbocharged engine. The LX600, which is based on the new Toyota Land Cruiser but will regrettably not be marketed in the United States, prioritizes off-road ability without sacrificing luxury.
The new model will get by with a 409-hp twin-turbo V-6 engine in place of the robust V-8 that powered the previous iteration. The LX may be outfitted with a variety of off-road goodies, including a height-adjustable suspension system, and four-wheel drive is still standard. Which One To Purchase?
The mid-range Luxury option, which adds luxuries like semi-aniline leather upholstery, a Mark Levinson sound system, and attractive 22-inch wheels, is what we believe to be the greatest bargain here. You should choose the Ultra Luxury trim if you want luxury that can compete with the Range Rover or top-tier BMW and Mercedes vehicles, but doing so reduces the number of seating options to just four.
2022 Lexus LX: Interior And Comfort
A spacious center console between the front seats and a sophisticated, opulent interior design give the new LX a snug cockpit feel. The LX has a high-end appearance and an opulent atmosphere thanks to its quilted leather seating, leather-wrapped dashboard, wood trim, and smoked-chrome highlights.
Five people can fit across two rows of seats in the base Standard trim, while seven people can fit across three rows of seats in the Premium, Luxury, and F Sport trims. The top-spec Ultra Luxury model is only available in a four-seat configuration, and it features rear-seat entertainment displays, wireless smartphone charging, and seats that have been carefully developed to provide the most comfort.
2022 Lexus LX: Connectivity
The LX's dashboard has three standard displays: a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, a 12.3-inch gauge cluster screen, and a 7.0-inch screen for the climate and vehicle functions. Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are anticipated to be standard features, and wireless connectivity may even be available. There will be wireless charging available, and according to Lexus, audiophiles can enhance the stereo to a 25-speaker Mark Levinson surround-sound system.
2022 Lexus LX: Engine And Performance
A twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V-6 engine with 409 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque powers the LX600. Both four-wheel drive and a 10-speed automatic transmission come standard. This engine debuted in the latest Toyota Land Cruiser, which has the same mechanical foundation as the LX. Given Lexus's preference for hybrid powertrains, we wouldn't be shocked to see a gas-electric system powering the LX, similar to the one seen in the 2022 Tundra pickup.
The twin-turbo V-6 on the road offers sufficient power and a refined nature appropriate for a luxury application such as the LX. The LX600 achieved a zero to 60 mph time of 6.1 seconds during our tests, which will be more than adequate for most drivers. The majority of models offer a smooth ride, but fans of the F Sport model will have to put up with some harshness due to its more aggressively tuned suspension.
