2022 Toyota GR Supra Review: Specs and Pricing

Toyota GR Supra

Overview

The 2022 Toyota GR Supra is a high-end sports car with a stylish interior, plush seats, and convenient features. Even though it can't quite equal the jaw-dropping athleticism of top competitors, it is nevertheless a delight to drive.

If you're looking for a high-end sports car, the 2022 Toyota Supra is a fantastic choice. The Supra is a thrill to drive, whether carving down switchback roads or driving down the freeway, thanks to its snappy turbocharged acceleration, dynamic handling, and balanced ride. Its inside is appealing and quite comfortable for two people, and the cargo area is large enough for weekend trips. The Supra is also praised for its user-friendly infotainment system, a plethora of safety features, and excellent fuel efficiency.

Although it isn't the only all-star in this class, the Toyota Supra's combination of performance, refinement, and value makes it a terrific purchase. Before making a purchase, you might also want to take into account sporty competitors like the Porsche Cayman, one of the best-handling cars money can buy, and the Chevrolet Corvette, which boasts more formidable powertrains than the Supra. All three of them should make you smile.

What has Changed for 2022?

Toyota has unveiled the A91-CF, or Carbon Fiber, a new limited-edition trim for 2022. A carbon fiber body kit, a rear spoiler, matte black 19-inch wheels, and red and black inside upholstery are standard on all 600 of the vehicles that will be produced. Phantom (matte grey), Absolute Zero White, and Nitro Yellow are the three exterior colors that are available for the A91-CF Edition.

In addition, the 3.0 variants of the GR Supra now come standard with heated seats. The 3.0 Premium also gets a new red inside, and customers who opt for the optional JBL radio system will also get full-screen Apple CarPlay.

Toyota GR Supra: Engine and Performance

A 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder produces 255 Horsepower and 295 Pound-feet of torque or a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine produces 382 Horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque is an option for the 2022 Toyota GR Supra. Rear-wheel drive and eight-speed automatic transmission are included with both engines.

Between the two, there truly isn't a negative choice. The Supra accelerates quickly off the mark and picks up speed thanks to the powerful four-cylinder engine. The Supra can scurry out of bends because of the rapid throttle response and abundant low-end torque of the engine. The transmission also stands out for its quick and seamless shifts.

Simply put, the more expensive straight-six offers more of everything. The exhaust sings a sweeter tune, with plenty of passing power, and the acceleration dominates. Additionally, the engine revs more easily and smoothly all the way to redline. Overall, the four are decent, but the six are outstanding.

Toyota GR Supra: Top Speed and Acceleration

When powered by a six-cylinder engine, the Toyota Supra can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 3.9 seconds. Five seconds are needed for the four-cylinder Supra to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph. The max speed of both variations is 155 mph.

Toyota GR Supra: Interior and Comfort

The gear selector, infotainment screen, and understated dashboard design all give off a distinct BMW vibe in the GR Supra's interior. But that's not entirely a terrible thing. A lot of the cabin surfaces seem strong but soft to the touch, and there isn't much road or wind noise intrusion at higher speeds.

The degree of fit and finish is excellent. Overall, it feels like a significant improvement over the Toyota GR86, the brand's entry-level sports car.

Toyota GR Supra: Connectivity

Speaking of infotainment, the 8.8-inch central display in the GR Supra features very little reskin of BMW's most recent iDrive user interface. All models come fitted with a digital gauge display, which has a different look than the Bimmer.

Android Auto is not accessible, although navigation and Apple CarPlay functionality are. Although a 12-speaker JBL audio system is available, we anticipate that the majority of customers will find the conventional 10-speaker audio system sufficient given the size of the GR Supra's cabin.

Toyota GR Supra: Pricing

The starting price of the 2022 Toyota Supra is $43,190, which is significantly less than that of any other car in its class. For six-cylinder vehicles, the price rises to $51,540, and for the limited-edition A91-CF Edition, it rises to $63,280.

Which one to Purchase?

Although the four-cylinder GR Supra 2.0 retains most of the driving excitement, we believe that most purchasers will find the six-cylinder 3.0's quicker acceleration to be worth the extra money. The Driver Assist package, which includes adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and ineffective lane-keeping assistance, is best avoided. Every GR Supra comes with a free day at a high-performance driving event and a one-year membership to the National Auto Sport Association. Spending less money on the Driver's Assist package allows you to buy more track time and extra tires.
