2024 Bentley Flying Spur Review: Specs and Pricing

 2024 Bentley Flying Spur

Overview

The 2024 Bentley Flying Spur stands out as a luxury sedan designed for those who appreciate both driving pleasure and opulent comfort. Ideal for executives who might often relax or conduct business in the spacious rear seats, this vehicle excels on winding roads without sacrificing its smooth, tranquil ride. Power options include robust twin-turbo V-8 and W-12 engines, alongside a plug-in hybrid V-6 that offers an impressive 35 miles of electric-only range. The interior is a masterpiece of craftsmanship, featuring premium leather, exquisite wood, and sleek metal finishes, with options like massaging rear bucket seats adding to the allure. However, such luxury comes with a high price tag, making the Flying Spur accessible only to the wealthiest clientele. For those who can afford it, the Flying Spur delivers an unmatched combination of performance, luxury, and sophistication.

What has Changed for 2024?

For 2024, Bentley introduced a new trim level below the Azure, named the A trim, which incorporates some of the Azure's elegant styling features, such as the distinctive waterfall grille. Additionally, the Flying Spur’s S and Speed models now sport an updated mesh grille design. Across all models, Bentley has enhanced the interior with plusher wool floor mats and new carpeting made from recycled nylon, emphasizing luxury and sustainability. The Speed model further distinguishes itself with a unique dark gray exterior trim, adding a touch of exclusivity to the lineup.

2024 Bentley Flying Spur: Engine and Performance

Every 2024 Bentley Flying Spur is equipped with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, all-wheel drive, and a potent twin-turbocharged engine. The standard model features a 542-hp V-8 engine, but for those seeking more power, the Speed model, which boasts a 626-hp W-12 engine, is highly recommended. With this 12-cylinder engine, the Flying Spur delivers exceptional power, outpacing many high-end sports cars in a drag race. At our test track, both the V-8 and W-12 models achieved a 0-60 mph time of just 3.5 seconds, though the W-12 excels in reaching 100 mph and completing the quarter-mile slightly faster. A plug-in hybrid powertrain option is also available, combining a twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6 with an electric motor to produce a total of 536 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. This PHEV model recorded an impressive 0-60 mph time of 3.9 seconds, closely matching the performance of the V-8 and W-12 variants. During a drive near Monaco, the Flying Spur showcased its unexpectedly athletic handling, thanks to its adaptive suspension and rear-wheel-steering system. Back home in Michigan, the Flying Spur's performance was consistent, offering a smooth and comfortable ride even on rough roads.

2024 Bentley Flying Spur: Interior and Comfort

How's the Interior? The interior of the 2024 Bentley Flying Spur is adorned with sumptuous leather, genuine wood trim, and real metal accents, creating a luxurious and inviting atmosphere. Both front and rear passengers have ample space to stretch out and revel in the opulent surroundings. Bentley’s designers have seamlessly blended the brand's classic, refined style with modern technological features. One notable addition is the remote touchscreen controller located at the rear of the center console, enabling rear-seat passengers to independently adjust window shades, cabin climate, and rear-seat massagers without driver assistance. The Flying Spur also boasts a generously sized trunk, perfect for luggage, champagne cases, or a day's worth of shopping on Rodeo Drive.

2024 Bentley Flying Spur: Connectivity

How's the Tech? The 2024 Bentley Flying Spur features a prominent 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, elegantly set amidst expansive wood trim on the dashboard. For an added touch of luxury, Bentley offers an optional rotating display that replaces the static screen with a wood panel housing three analog dials: an outside temperature gauge, a clock, and a compass. Connectivity is top-notch, with a Wi-Fi hotspot available for passengers and Apple CarPlay integration for compatible smartphones. The standard audio setup includes a 10-speaker stereo system, but for an elevated auditory experience, buyers can upgrade to a 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen system or a 19-speaker Naim system, which features illuminated speaker grilles.

Which one to Purchase?

Opting for the Speed model over the base hybrid and V-8 options is a straightforward decision, offering the formidable 626-hp W-12 engine. When ordering your Flying Spur, Bentley presents a selection of curated themes like Cool Harmony, Storm Noir, or Alter Ego. However, for a truly personalized touch, we recommend exploring the possibilities of a fully bespoke build. Bentley's Mulliner customization program opens doors to a vast array of exterior colors and styling options, allowing you to create a vehicle that is truly unique to you. The same level of customization extends to the interior, where you can select from various types of wood, leather, and polished metal accents to tailor the cabin to your exact preferences.

Bentley Flying Spur vs. Mercedes-Benz Maybach

The Maybach represents a more opulent and exclusive iteration of the S-Class, boasting comparable starting prices to the Flying Spur and offering both turbocharged V8 and V12 engines. However, it falls short in terms of customization options compared to the Bentley and lacks the distinctiveness of its design, often resembling a standard S-Class. While the Flying Spur promises a more engaging driving experience for those who enjoy being behind the wheel of their luxury sedan, the Maybach excels in providing a more spacious and comfortable rear seating arrangement, making it the preferred choice for those who prefer to be chauffeured.

Bentley Flying Spur vs. Rolls-Royce Ghost

While the Flying Spur is undeniably impressive, the Ghost elevates luxury to new heights. Offering extensive customization options and a wealth of features, the Rolls-Royce surpasses the Flying Spur in nearly every aspect. However, this enhanced experience comes with a higher price tag; the Ghost's starting price exceeds even the most expensive Flying Spur model. Similar to the Maybach, the Ghost is designed with a focus on being chauffeured, boasting larger rear seats for added luxury and comfort. Its exclusivity and attention-grabbing presence further distinguish it from its competitors. Yet, for those unwilling to invest in the Ghost's premium price and prefer to take the wheel themselves, the Flying Spur provides a more satisfying driving experience at a more accessible price point.
