2024 Tesla Model 3 Review: Specs and Pricing

2024 Tesla Model 3

The 2024 Tesla Model 3 is a good-looking electric car with a decent driving range and a competitive price. It was a game-changer when it first came out because it made electric cars more affordable. However, it has some downsides. The quality of the interior isn't great, there's not much space inside, and some features you might want, like Apple CarPlay, aren't included. There are almost no buttons or knobs to control things in the car - you have to use the touchscreen for nearly everything. Tesla isn't the only electric car company anymore, and there are other options available now like the BMW i4, Hyundai Ioniq 6, and Polestar 2 that offer similar features for similar prices without as many drawbacks.

What has Changed for 2024?

In 2024, the Tesla Model 3 has undergone a pleasing visual update, featuring a more streamlined front design and upgraded standard features. These subtle yet impactful changes lend the car a refreshed and upscale appearance. Inside, notable improvements include upgraded materials for enhanced quality, augmented by increased use of sound-dampening elements and acoustic glass to reduce road noise. The steering wheel has been revamped, eliminating traditional stalks for blinkers and transmission shifting. Additionally, the seats now sport a new perforated upholstery with front-seat ventilation. Rear passengers are treated to an individual 8.0-inch display for climate control adjustments and entertainment options like Netflix. The Model 3 Performance variant also sees significant enhancements, boasting a power increase to 510 horsepower, up from 455, along with an estimated driving range of 296 miles. Notable performance upgrades include an adaptive suspension system, a dedicated Track driving mode, improved brakes, sport seats, and a staggered wheel and tire setup.

2024 Tesla Model 3: EV Motor and Performance

The Model 3 accelerates swiftly, silently, and smoothly, thanks to its electric motor delivering a robust punch from the get-go. With impressive speed, particularly in certain trims, it epitomizes Tesla's performance prowess. Benefitting from Tesla's signature battery placement beneath the floor, the Model 3 boasts a low center of gravity, enhancing its agility and stability during maneuvers. Its precise and well-weighted steering offers three customizable settings to suit driver preferences. While the ride remains firm yet comfortable, road noise is more noticeable in the absence of a traditional combustion engine, especially over uneven surfaces. Notably, the new-for-2024 Performance variant elevates the driving experience with an array of enhancements. Exclusive to this model is a sport-tuned suspension with adaptive dampers, providing heightened performance and control. Equipped with all-wheel drive, the Performance trim delivers an impressive 510 horsepower, complemented by upgraded brakes and a staggered wheel and tire setup for enhanced grip and handling.

2024 Tesla Model 3: Battery Life, Charging, and Range

The Tesla Model 3 lineup consists of three distinct trims, each offering varying estimated driving ranges. The entry-level rear-wheel-drive model provides the most economical option, boasting a claimed range of 272 miles. Opting for the Long Range model extends the Model 3's estimated range to an impressive 341 miles, though selecting the optional 19-inch wheels may slightly reduce these figures. While the Model 3 Performance prioritizes power over range, it still delivers a commendable estimated range of 296 miles per charge. Achieving these distances can vary, as observed during our long-term testing of the Long Range Model 3. For charging convenience, Tesla offers multiple options, including its extensive network of Superchargers, adapters for DC public-charging stations, standard 240- and 120-volt outlets, as well as home-charging stations.

2024 Tesla Model 3: 0-60 MPH

During our testing, the Tesla Model 3 Long Range demonstrated impressive acceleration, reaching 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds. While we haven't tested the base Model 3 variant, equipped with a single electric motor and rear-wheel drive, it's anticipated to have slightly slower acceleration compared to the all-wheel drive Long Range model. Notably, the 2024 Performance trim boasts enhanced power compared to its predecessor, with Tesla claiming an astonishing 60 mph time of just 2.9 seconds. As soon as we have the opportunity to verify this claim through our testing, we'll provide updated details in this story.

2024 Tesla Model 3: Interior and Comfort

The interior of the Tesla Model 3 stands out as distinctive and innovative compared to other vehicles in today's market. Characterized by its minimalist design, the cabin is dominated by a large touchscreen display at the center of the dashboard, offering intuitive control over various functions. Steering wheel-mounted buttons handle tasks like adjusting side mirrors, steering column position, and turn signals, although some users may prefer a more traditional layout for these controls. Thanks to its low, flat floor, the Model 3 interior feels spacious and open, enhancing the overall driving experience. While the front seats offer excellent support and comfort, the rear seats are less accommodating, with limited legroom and comfort, particularly for adults on longer journeys. Folding the 60/40 split-folding rear seats is straightforward and significantly increases cargo space. Additionally, the Model 3 features flat-folding seatbacks, creating a seamless cargo floor ideal for transporting larger items. With the rear seats folded down, the Model 3 provides ample room for storing up to 15 carry-on suitcases. Furthermore, the cabin offers ample storage solutions with generously sized bins and cubbies distributed throughout.

2024 Tesla Model 3: Connectivity

Standard features on the Tesla Model 3 include Navigation, Bluetooth, and USB connectivity, providing users with essential connectivity options. However, it's worth noting that the Model 3 does not offer AM radio or SiriusXM satellite radio, which may be surprising to some. Instead, the vehicle includes several internet-streaming radio options as standard. Furthermore, the Model 3 does not support Android Auto or Apple CarPlay integration. To enhance the charging-station experience, Tesla has equipped the Model 3 with various entertainment options accessible through its central display, such as Netflix, YouTube, and a selection of arcade games. Rear-seat passengers benefit from an 8.0-inch touchscreen mounted to the rear of the center console, granting them control over climate settings and access to infotainment features.

2024 Tesla Model 3: Pricing

The starting price of the 2024 Tesla Model 3 ranges from $40,630 to $54,630, depending on the chosen trim level and optional features.

Which one to Purchase?

The base trim level of the 2024 Tesla Model 3 features a single motor powering the rear wheels, while all other trims come equipped with dual motors and all-wheel drive. While the base rear-wheel-drive model offers good value, its EPA-estimated driving range of 272 miles may not fully alleviate range anxiety for some drivers. For those seeking extended range, we recommend the Long Range model, boasting an impressive estimated driving range of 341 miles per charge. Additionally, all Model 3 variants come standard with heated and ventilated front seats, navigation, and Tesla's Autopilot semi-autonomous driving system.
