Meanwhile, the Performance model showcased an even quicker acceleration, achieving a blistering 3.6-second sprint to 60 mph in our trials. Despite its impressive acceleration figures, the Model Y falls short of delivering the same level of driving satisfaction as its sedan counterpart, the Model 3. The SUV's design introduces a higher center of gravity, which dampens the sharp handling characteristics found in the Model 3. Additionally, the ride quality of the Model Y is notably rougher over road imperfections compared to its sedan counterpart.

Standard Range models equipped with rear-wheel drive and 19-inch wheels boast impressive driving range estimates of up to 260 miles. For those seeking all-wheel-drive capability, the Long Range variant offers an extended range of 310 miles. However, opting for the Performance model, while sacrificing some range with an estimated 285 miles, brings a host of performance enhancements. These include 20-inch wheels, a lowered suspension for improved handling, a higher top speed of 155 mph, quicker claimed acceleration, and a dedicated Track mode tailored for spirited driving experiences.

Unlike the larger Model X crossover, the Model Y does not feature the complex Falcon Wing doors.
