  • 2023 Genesis G80 Review: Specs and Pricing

OVERVIEW The 2023 Genesis G80 delivers lots of refinement—from its finely designed exterior to its effortlessly sleek cabin—which is the name of the game in the luxury sedan class. It sits in the middle of the lineup, below the new G90 cruise ship and above the sporty, small G70, and prioritizes smooth cruising over fast driving. Even with the standard 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine churning away beneath the hood, the G80 is a honey-flavored treat as long as you aren't expecting corner-carving power. Even with the 3.5T Sport trim's sharper handling and the more potent twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 turning up the heat, it can't be considered a serious BMW M3 competitor. Instead, the Genesis competes with vehicles like the Audi A6, BMW 5-series, and Mercedes-Benz E-Class at a slightly lower entry price. What Has Changed For 2023? The 2.5T Sport Prestige model will take the place of the 2.5T Prestige model for 2023. It includes enhanced front brakes with monoblock calipers, exclusive 19-inch wheels, a sport aesthetic package for the exterior trim, aluminum pedal covers, and more. In the center console of each model is a newly updated infotainment controller. 2023 Genesis G80: Engine And Performance The base G80's basic turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four engine produces 300 horsepower with rear- or all-wheel drive. Those looking for more acceleration can choose the Sport trim, which has an all-wheel-drive system and a 375-hp twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 engine. The eight-speed automatic transmission is paired with both engines. At our test track, the V-6 reached 60 mph in 4.9 seconds while the turbocharged four-cylinder did so in a cheery 5.7 seconds. The G80 has a smooth ride, effortless handling, and reliable brakes, but it lacks some of the athleticism of certain competitors. The 2023 Sport model adds more agility and should make driving more enjoyable for passionate drivers. The G80 Sport has the same 375-hp twin-turbo V-6 engine, but thanks to a launch control technology, it was able to accelerate from zero to sixty miles per hour in 0.2 seconds less at our test track. 2023 Genesis G80: Interior And Comfort The G80 provides a suitably sophisticated cabin given its primary purpose as a premium vehicle. Its cabin exudes an exquisite style with a streamlined dashboard, soft-touch materials, and materials that look expensive. The interior of the G80 is rather attractive overall, except for the oddly designed steering wheel and the rotary shift knob, which is never as intuitive as automakers believe. A 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, ambient interior lighting, a head-up display, heated and ventilated front and back seats, and other desirable options are available in the sedan. The G80 is roomier than the previous model, which was already roomy, in terms of both headroom and legroom. 2023 Genesis G80: Connectivity The center of the G80's infotainment system protrudes from the top of the dashboard as a massive 14.5-inch touchscreen. A circular controller on the center console, buttons on the steering wheel, and voice commands are all available for controlling the display. Moreover, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on every G80. As part of the infotainment system is a potent Lexicon audio system with various sound settings. 2023 Genesis G80: Pricing Starting Pricing for the 2023 G80 is $49,500, which is about typical for the class. The new Electrified G80 starts at $79,825, while the higher trims start at roughly $65,250. Which One To Purchase? Of the many trim levels, the 2.5T Advanced seems to offer the best value because it adds several high-end features that more than make up for the price premium above the base model. The Advance trim includes a motorized trunk lid, heated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, three-zone automatic temperature control, 19-inch alloys, and a 21-speaker Lexicon sound system as standard equipment. Rear-wheel drive is standard on all four-cylinder G80 models, although all-wheel drive is also available for an additional cost.

  • 2023 BMW XM Review: Specs and Pricing

OVERVIEW BMW's M division, known for producing high-performance cars like the M3 and M5 sedans, has introduced a new sports SUV that surpasses the X7 in size and performance. The XM, a two-row crossover, boasts an aggressive design inspired by the XM Concept from 2021, with a large kidney-shaped grille, stacked tailpipes, and a slightly sloped roof. It's powered by a 644-hp plug-in hybrid engine that utilizes a twin-turbocharged V-8 and can travel up to 30 miles on electricity alone. After test-driving a pre-production model, experts predict that the XM will live up to its M badge and perform as well as its sedan counterparts. What Has Changed For 2023? The XM, a brand-new model for the BMW portfolio, is expected to enter production at the end of 2022 and hit the market at the start of 2023. BMW XM: Engine And Performance The BMW powertrain portfolio has previously included a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8, but in the XM, this engine is combined with an electric motor and a battery pack to generate an impressive 644 horsepower. In the limited-edition Label Red model, the horsepower is increased to 735-hp. In our initial test drive of an XM prototype in Austria, we observed that the powertrain has an immediate punch and we estimate that it can accelerate the XM from 0 to 60 miles per hour in approximately 3.5 seconds. This puts it in the same league as other high-performance SUVs such as the Lamborghini Urus and Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid, which achieved zero-to-60-mph times of 3.2 seconds in our testing. The XM utilizes a coil-spring suspension system that is supplemented by adaptive dampers and active anti-roll bars to provide a surprisingly comfortable ride when set to its Comfort driving mode. When set to Sport, the XM's handling is agile and enthusiastic, making it enjoyable to drive on winding roads. BMW XM: Battery Life, Charging, And Range The 25.7 kWh battery pack in the XM is rated to provide around 30 miles of electric-only range on a single charge. According to BMW, the XM's inbuilt charger can juice the battery at a rate of up to 7.4 kW and should be able to charge the battery to 100 percent in just under three hours. BMW XM: Interior And Comfort The interior of the XM model seems to exude luxury in every aspect, as evidenced by its exclusive vintage-style leather seating options, which were initially displayed on the prototype vehicle. The XM cabin follows a two-row configuration, eschewing a vast panoramic sunroof in favor of a faux-suede headliner decorated with a geometric pattern and illuminated using fiber-optic lighting for a stunning visual display. Additionally, a premium audio enhancement package is available, featuring a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System, complete with tweeters that glow, enhancing the overall listening experience. BMW XM: Connectivity A vast and arcuate screen expands over an expanse of two-thirds of the front panel of the automobile. This screen operates not only as a digital measuring device but also as an onboard infotainment hub, and it executes BMW's newest iDrive 8.5 software interface. The typical features of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are provided as a standard, and extra amenities such as SiriusXM satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and an exceptional stereo system are also integrated. BMW XM: Pricing The 2023 iteration of the BMW XM, a luxury Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), will have an initial base price of $159,000 with an additional cost of $995 for delivery to your desired destination. However, it is important to note that the ultimate cost of the vehicle may significantly exceed the initial base price, owing to the possibility of supplementary options and customization items being added on by the consumer. Although BMW has refrained from divulging an exact figure, it has revealed that the XM Label Red variant will commence at a price that surpasses $185,000. Which One To Purchase? Although the XM's base price is hefty, it does have a tonne of luxurious extras, such as a leather interior, enormous 23-inch wheels, a stylish curved infotainment display, and several driver-assistance technologies. Soon after the debut, a limited-edition Label Red model will be added to the roster, and BMW claims that it will provide an even more potent engine to go with its distinctive interior and external style components.

  • 2023 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Review: Specs and Pricing

OVERVIEW There are many ways to be dirty, but the Mercedes-Benz G-class is unquestionably the most abundant. The G Wagon, constructed like a champagne-sipping Ford Bronco or Jeep Wrangler, has a luxurious interior with massaging seats and a starting price to match. A 416-hp twin-turbo V-8 with nine-speed automated transmission power every G550. Drive with all four wheels is usual. The 577-hp AMG-badged G63, which was reviewed separately, offers more power. The G Wagon can go on crazier adventures than its passengers would probably choose. With three locking differentials and 9.5 inches of ground clearance, it feels impervious to get trapped. Due to its boxy appearance, the cabin is roomy and has enough legroom for every passenger, albeit at the expense of highway fuel efficiency. Yet, celebrities like the Kardashians, Sylvester Stallone, and other Hollywood heavyweights who frequently use this high-end off-road vehicle are not likely to be burdened by the cost of fuel. What Has Changed For 2023? Mercedes-G-class Benz's had a makeover in 2019, but just minor equipment upgrades will be made to the SUV for 2023. A brand-new G Professional option for 2023 comprises 18-inch matte black wheels, a spare wheel holder, cherry wood trim for the baggage area, and a roof rack. Added recently is an optional logo package. 2023 G-Class: Engine And Performance The G550 is a twin-turbo V-8-powered vehicle with 416 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque that is equally speedy on the road as it is powered off. The G550's engine transmits power through an obedient nine-speed automated gearbox and comes standard with all-wheel drive. Due to an independent front suspension and a lower center of gravity than the outgoing model, the 2019 G550 that we drove offered significantly better road manners. At higher speeds, though, its tall, square shape produced a lot of wind noise, which undoubtedly hinders the SUV's ability to feel quick through curves. Even so, the G550's handling seems more accurate than ever and the ride is smooth overall, save for the bumpiest roads. Each G-class is also outfitted by Mercedes with three locking differentials and a low-range gear, making it capable of navigating virtually any terrain. 2023 G-Class: Interior And Comfort The inside of the G-class is all about luxury and provides greater room for passengers and cargo than the previous model, which adds to the vehicle's off-road prowess. A 12.3-inch completely digital instrument cluster, heated leather front, and back seats, a power-adjustable steering column, and three-zone automatic temperature control are all included as standard equipment. Customers can enjoy heated steering wheels, Nappa leather upholstery, massaging front seats with ventilation, and digital instrument displays by checking a few option boxes. The most sumptuous aesthetic and more than 54 different interior upholsterers are available with the G manufaktur options, but they are somewhat expensive. Although there is ample headroom in both the front and back seats, the ride isn't as luxurious as it is in other high-end SUVs like the Bentley Bentayga or Rolls-Royce Cullinan. The Mercedes has a tonne of cargo room, though. The model under examination could accommodate 17 bags when the back row seats were lowered in addition to 16 carry-on baggage (33 total). 2023 G-Class: Connectivity Every G-wagon has a sizable 12.3-inch infotainment screen that can be mostly operated with a rotary knob and touchpad situated on the center console. The system is simple to use and less distracting than touch-heavy rivals, and it includes helpful steering-wheel controls and voice directions. Other standard features include a 15-speaker, 590-watt Burmester audio system, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. An entertainment system for the backseat or a Wi-Fi hotspot are options for those seeking additional enhancements. 2023 Mercedes-Benz G-Class: Pricing The 2023 Mercedes-Benz G 550 has the highest MSRP among luxury big SUVs, starting at $139,900. Which One To Purchase? Every G-class commands a six-figure price, and the amount can increase significantly with the numerous pricey extras. We would steer clear of the most expensive modifications and add intelligent upgrades to our version. One of these is the Elite Interior package, which includes snazzier trim and better Nappa leather upholstery. The optional adaptive dampers allow for customizable ride quality, while the Seat Comfort package offers ventilated, massaging front seats. The heated steering wheel is the only alternative we would select.

  • Volvo to Stop Making Diesel Engines Next Year

In recent times, the European market has witnessed a decrease in the diesel market share held by the Swedish automaker, and the company has pledged to exclusively sell electric vehicles by the year 2030. Volvo has affirmed its plans to discontinue the production of all diesel-powered vehicles by early 2024. This decision follows Volvo's previous commitment to eliminating combustion engine research and development funding. The company is dedicated to exclusively offering electric cars by 2030 and aims to achieve complete carbon neutrality as a company by 2040. Automakers are steadily advancing their transition towards electrifying their vehicle lineups, and Volvo has recently declared its intention to discontinue production of all remaining diesel models by early next year. Simultaneously, Volvo is further emphasizing its commitment to electrification. The company had already taken the significant step last year of discontinuing the development of new combustion engines and allocating no further research and development funds to them. In November of the same year, Volvo also divested its stake in Aurobay, a joint venture company that held the carmaker's remaining assets related to combustion engines. Volvo hasn't offered diesel-powered vehicles in the United States for many years. Nevertheless, even on a global scale, the recent announcement isn't surprising, considering the dwindling market share of Volvo's diesel cars. According to Reuters, as recently as 2019, a majority of the cars sold by Volvo in Europe were diesel, but by 2022, they accounted for just 8.9 percent of the manufacturer's sales. Jim Rowan, the CEO of Volvo Cars, stated, "Electric powertrains are our future, and superior to combustion engines. We're fully dedicated to developing a comprehensive range of premium, fully electric vehicles that meet all the expectations of our Volvo customers and play a significant role in our response to climate change." This decision aligns with Volvo's strategic plan to achieve a 100 percent electric vehicle sales target by 2030, as well as its broader objective of becoming a carbon-neutral company by 2040. As early as 2019, Volvo initiated the process of electrifying all its new models, encompassing hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and battery-electric vehicles like the forthcoming EX30 and EX90 SUVs.

  • Tesla has won its first U.S. Autopilot trial, which involved a deadly crash

In a significant triumph for Tesla, the automaker has secured a favorable outcome in the initial U.S. trial concerning allegations that its Autopilot driver assistance system was responsible for a fatal accident. This lawsuit, which took place in a California state court, had been filed by two passengers involved in a 2019 collision. They alleged that Tesla was aware of Autopilot's flaws when they sold the vehicle, while Tesla contended that the accident resulted from human error. The 12-member jury rendered their verdict on Tuesday, announcing that the vehicle did not exhibit any manufacturing defects. This decision was reached after four days of deliberation, with a vote of 9-3 in favor of Tesla. Following the verdict, neither Tesla's representatives nor the plaintiffs immediately provided comments. The civil lawsuit revolved around the assertion that the Autopilot system was responsible for causing Micah Lee's Model 3 to abruptly swerve off a highway east of Los Angeles while traveling at 65 miles per hour. The vehicle collided with a palm tree and erupted in flames, occurring within seconds. Tragically, the 2019 accident resulted in Lee's fatality and severe injuries to his two passengers, one of whom was an 8-year-old boy whose injuries included disembowelment, as indicated in court documents. The passengers' lawsuit against Tesla alleges that the company was aware of the defects in Autopilot and other safety systems at the time of the car's sale. Tesla refuted any liability in this case, contending that Lee had consumed alcohol before driving. The electric vehicle manufacturer also raised doubts regarding whether Autopilot was in use at the time of the accident. Tesla has been actively testing and implementing its Autopilot and more advanced Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, both of which have been highlighted by CEO Elon Musk as pivotal to the company's future. However, these systems have faced regulatory and legal scrutiny. In a prior trial in Los Angeles in April, Tesla employed a strategy of emphasizing that it informs drivers that its technology necessitates human oversight, despite the names "Autopilot" and "Full Self-Driving." This particular case revolved around an accident in which a Model S veered into the curb, resulting in the injury of the driver. Jurors who participated in the trial stated to Reuters that they believed Tesla had indeed cautioned drivers about its system and attributed the accident to driver distraction.

  • ADAS: The Next Step Towards Autonomous Driving

What Is Advanced Driver Assistance Systems(ADAS)? Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are a suite of electronic technologies that assist drivers in driving and parking their vehicles safely. ADAS systems use a variety of sensors, including cameras, radar, and lidar, to perceive the surrounding environment and provide the driver with warnings or take corrective action to avoid collisions. ADAS systems are becoming increasingly common in new vehicles, and many are now required by law in certain countries. ADAS systems are effective in reducing crashes and fatalities, and they are expected to play an even greater role in future vehicles as autonomous driving technologies continue to develop. Types Of ADAS Systems ADAS systems can be divided into two main categories: active safety systems and passive safety systems. Active safety systems intervene to prevent collisions, while passive safety systems protect occupants in the event of a collision. Active safety systems Active safety systems include: Autonomous emergency braking (AEB): AEB systems use sensors to detect obstacles in the road ahead and can automatically apply the brakes to avoid a collision. Adaptive cruise control (ACC): ACC systems maintain a safe distance between the vehicle and the vehicle in front. Lane keeping assist (LKA): LKA systems help to keep the vehicle in its lane by applying steering torque. Blind-spot monitoring (BSM) systems are designed to alert drivers of other vehicles that may be in their blind spots. These systems help to improve safety on the road by providing an additional layer of awareness and warning drivers of potential hazards. Rear cross traffic alert (RCTA): RCTA systems warn the driver of vehicles crossing behind them when they are reversing. Passive safety systems Passive safety systems include: Airbags: Airbags inflate to protect occupants in the event of a collision. Seatbelts: Seatbelts help to keep occupants in their seats in the event of a collision. Crumple zones: Crumple zones are designed to absorb energy in the event of a collision, which helps to protect occupants. Challenges Of ADAS One of the challenges of ADAS is that it can be complex and expensive to implement. ADAS systems also require careful calibration and maintenance to ensure that they operate properly. Another challenge of ADAS is that it can be difficult for drivers to understand how the systems work and when they are engaged. This can lead to drivers becoming complacent and relying too heavily on the systems. The Future Of ADAS ADAS systems are expected to play an even greater role in future vehicles as autonomous driving technologies continue to develop. ADAS systems will be used to provide redundant safety systems for self-driving vehicles and to assist drivers in semi-autonomous driving situations.
